Lares Trek to Machu picchu Details

One of the most popular alternative Inca Trails to Machu Picchu is our Lares trek Peru. There is more than one way to experience a trekking adventure in Peru. Our Lares trek to Machu Picchu takes you straight through the heart of the Andes. On our Lares Trek 4 days you will experience the living traditions and enjoy the colorful mountains of the Sacred Valley. Along the Lares Trail Peru you will pass through ancients villages and meet friendly people who will be happy to share their culture with you. The Lares trek Peru is full of adventure and adrenaline rushes.

The Lares Trek Machu Picchu begins in the town of Lares which is located about 40 miles north of Cusco and 35 miles east of Machu Picchu. First of all to get to Lares and start the Lares Hike,  you will ride for about 4 hours in our Mercedes Sprinter van. The ride is a beautiful one that takes you over high mountains and through beautiful Andean scenery.

You will start the Lares to Machu Picchu tour by swimming in the best hots springs in the Cusco area, the Lares Peru Hot Springs. The Valley of Lares is home to traditional weavers and farmers. Textiles made in Lares are famous all over Peru and South America. The natives from this zone speak both Quechua and Spanish. They might even help you weave your own pair of gloves or a scarf.

The Lares Machu Picchu trek is slightly shorter and higher than the classic Inca Trail Trek, but it is a wonderful adventure . The Lares route to Machu Picchu is easily accessible from Cusco.  Because this Lares hike is not as well-known as the classic Inca Trail, it is much more peaceful.

Lares Trek to Machu Picchu Itinerary

Day 1:Cusco – Hot Springs of Lares - Kiswarani

Whether your hotel is located in Cusco, Urubamba, or the Sacred Valley, we will pick you up at your hotel in the morning for the Lares trek. We will be hiking through fascinating valleys and over mountain chains on our way from the Lares Hot Springs. But first we will be able to soak in and enjoy the warm water of the hot springs. In addition, we will have a delicious breakfast accompanied by the other members of our group. If you want to, you can return to the hot springs after breakfast.

After thoroughly enjoying this fantastic spot, we will take a short hike to meet up with our team members. Then we will hike uphill for two hours until we arrive at the village of Quishuarany. That is where we will have lunch in the open air. After a short break the villagers will teach us about their traditions and customs. Many of these have to do with raising llamas and alpacas.

We will have the afternoon free to explore this timeless village. The locals will be happy to include you as they participate in their traditional routines. They often speak the original language of the Incas, Quechua. Finally in the evening, dinner will be prepared by our chef. If the weather permits, we will gaze at the brilliant constellations high above in the dark blue Andean sky.

Day 2:Quiswarani – Condor Pass & Cancha Cancha

Since you will be surrounded by blue lakes and high mountains, when you awake you will notice how peaceful it is up here in the Quishuarany Valley. After breakfast we will head up to the pass. We will walk through age-old villages along the way. The Andes are dotted with many picturesque little communities. The flora and fauna on the trail will be of great interest. When we reach the Condor Pass we will be able to appreciate the view over the Sacred Valley, Mt. Pitusiray, and the whole Vilcanota Mountain Range.

Next we will descend at an easy pace to the place where our chef will have a delicious lunch waiting for us. After lunch we will hike down a gentle slope for about 3 hours. On the way we can appreciate the llamas and alpacas pastured on the Andean hillsides under the watchful eye of their shepherds.

Finally, when we arrive at Cancha Cancha our team will have camp set up. We can have a well-deserved rest, and we can wander around this colorful little village. The folks will be happy to share their free time with us. They will inform us all about their living traditions, tell us stories, and let us know all about their history. Then can all speak Quechua, the ancient language of the Incas. After a great dinner we can hang out with the kids of the village and learn a few words in Quechua.

Day 3:Cancha Cancha – Huaran – Salineras – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

You will be served a nice hot drink by our team members when you wake up in the morning. Then you´ll have a healthy breakfast in the fresh, high-mountain air. After breakfast we will head down to the beautiful town of Huaran which is located in the heart of the Sacred Valley. There we will have a farewell ceremony along with our team members from our Lares trek crew. Our porters will be leaving us here.

Along with our expert local guide we will continue on with our Lares Trek to Machu Picchu. Our private vehicle will be waiting to take us from Huaran to the Salt Mines of Salineras. You will be impressed by the beauty of the site and the uniqueness of the people here, as they go about their traditional way of mining salt from the more than 3000 wells.

After visiting Salineras we will head to Ollantaytambo where we will catch our train that will travel along the banks of the Vilcanota River to the town of Aguas Calientes. When we arrive in Aguas Calientes our team will be waiting to greet us and take us over to our hotel. We will have a gala dinner and receive valuable last minute instructions from our guide about tour to Machu Picchu, because in the light of the dawn we will head up to Citadel of the Incas. Finally, it will be time to turn in and get a good night´s sleep after a very active day.

Day 4:Aguas Calientes town - Machu picchu citadel - Cusco

This will be a very special day, a day that you will always remeber. This is the day when we will visit One of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, Machu Picchu. So we will wake up very early. Then we will eat a good breakfast before catching the bus up to the Citadel of Machu Picchu.

After a guided tour of the site there will be time to take a break in the midst of the ruins. You can snap some photos or record a video. These will be treasured keepsakes when you return home. Then in the afternoon we will return to Aguas Calientes where we can have a good lunch and some great drinks. Next we will board our train that will take us to Poroy station which is the closest station to Cusco. Our team will be waiting for you at the station, and they will drive you back to your hotel in Cusco.

During your tour of Lares Trek to Machu Picchu you will have the option of climbing up Huayna Picchu Mtn. or Machu Picchu Mtn. If you wish to climb up either one, it would be in your best interest to reserve your tickets at least 3 months in advance.

If you are traveling with Travel 1 Tours we will take care of all of that for you if you let us know your preference. Also, you could take a tour to the seldom visited sites of the Incan Bridge and the Gateway of the Sun while you are at Machu Picchu. These 2 sites do not require separate entry tickets.
