Lares Trek to Machu picchu Details

Lares Trek is South America’s most popular alternative Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. There is more than one way to experience a Trekking Adventure in Peru. Our Lares Trek to Machupicchu takes you deep into the heart of the Andes. On our Lares Trek 4 Days the trekker experiences the living traditions of the local people and enjoys the spectacular mountains around the Sacred Valley. Along the Lares Trail Peru you will pass through ancient villages and meet friendly Quechua people who will be happy to share their culture with you. Our Lares Trek to Machu Picchu is full of adventures and adrenaline rushes.

The Lares Trek Machu Picchu begins in the town of Lares which is located about 40 miles north of Cusco and 35 miles east of Machu Picchu. First of all, to get to Lares and start the Lares Hike, you will ride for about 4 hours in our Mercedes Sprinter van. This journey is a beautiful one that takes you by colorful landscapes and through beautiful Andean scenery.

You will start the Machu Picchu Lares Trek by soaking in the medicinal Lares Hot Springs. The historical Valley of Lares is home to traditional weavers and farmers. Textiles made in Lares are famous all over Peru and South America. Natives from this zone speak both Quechua and Spanish. They might even help you weave your own pair of gloves or a scarf while talking to you in Quechua.

Lares Machu Picchu Trek is slightly shorter and higher than the Classic Inca Trail Trek, but it is a very interesting challenge. Exploring the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu 4 Days is full of magical adventures and, because this Lares Tour is not as well-known as the classic Inca Trail, it is much more peaceful. Book your Lares Trip!

Lares Trek to Machu Picchu Itinerary.

Day 1:Cusco – Hot Springs of Lares - Kiswarani

Whether your hotel is located in Cusco, Urubamba, or the Sacred Valley, we will pick you up at your hotel in the morning for the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu. You will hike through some fascinating valleys and over mountain chains on your spectacular trek starting at the Lares Hot Springs. Here you will be able to soak in and enjoy the warm water of the hot springs. Next you will have a delicious breakfast accompanied by the other members of our group. If you want to, you can return to the hot springs after breakfast.

After thoroughly enjoying this fantastic spot, you will take a short hike to meet up with our team members. Then you will hike uphill for two hours until you arrive at the village of Quishuarany. That is where you will have lunch in the open air. After a short break the villagers will teach you about their traditions and customs. Many of these have to do with raising llamas and alpacas.

You will have the afternoon free to explore this timeless village. The locals will be happy to include you as they participate in their essential traditional routines. They often speak the original language of the Incas, Quechua. Finally, in the evening, dinner will be prepared by your chef. If the weather permits, you will gaze at the brilliant constellations high above in the dark blue Andean sky. On this first day you will enjoy colorful landscapes and very interesting local people from the nearby villages.

Day 2:Quiswarani – Condor Pass & Cancha Cancha

Since you will be surrounded by blue lakes and high mountains, when you awake you will notice how peaceful it is up here in the Quishuarany Valley. After breakfast you will head up to the pass. You will walk through interesting villages along the way. The Andes are dotted with many picturesque little communities. The flora and fauna on the trail will be of great interest. When you reach Condor Pass you will be able to appreciate the view over the Sacred Valley, Mount Pitusiray, and the whole Vilcanota Mountain Range.

Next, you will descend at an easy pace to the place where your chef will have a delicious lunch waiting for you. After lunch you will hike down a gentle slope for about 3 hours. On the way you can appreciate the llamas and alpacas pastured on the Andean hillsides under the watchful eye of their shepherds.

Finally, when you arrive at Cancha Cancha our team will have camp set up. You can have a well-deserved rest, and you can wander around this colorful little village. The folks will be happy to share their free time with you. They will inform you all about their living traditions, tell you stories, and let you know all about their history. They can all speak Quechua, the ancient language of the Incas. After a great dinner you can hang out with the kids of the village and accept their challenge to learn a few words in Quechua.

Day 3:Cancha Cancha – Huaran – Salineras – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

You will be served a nice hot drink by our team members when you wake up in the morning. Then you´ll have a healthy breakfast in the fresh, high-mountain air. When breakfast is finished, you will head down to the beautiful town of Huaran which is located in the heart of the Sacred Valley. There you will have a farewell ceremony along with our team members from our Lares Trek crew. Your porters will be leaving you here. From this point on, you’ll be accompanied only by your guide.

Lares Trek to Machu Picchu offers you out-of-the-ordinary experiences. In Huaran your private van will be waiting to take you to the Salt Mines of Salineras. Salineras is an impressive and beautiful old site. Mining salt is the historical occupation of the local people of Maras. There are over 5000 small wells from which salt is harvested.

After visiting the Salt Mines of Salineras, you will head to Urubamba for an excellent lunch. Finally, you will travel from Urubamba to Ollantaytambo where you will catch your Vistadome Train and travel along the banks of the Vilcanota River to the town of Aguas Calientes. When you arrive in Aguas Calientes our team will be waiting to greet you and take you over to your hotel. A gala farewell dinner will be served and you will receive valuable last-minute instruction from your guide about your tour to Machu Picchu. By the time the sun is rising you will be at the gate of the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. When you enter with the first rays of the sunrise, your guide will be able to show you how the Incas offered Coca to the Apus at this sacred site. After dinner it will be time to turn in and get a good night´s sleep.

Day 4:Aguas Calientes Town - Machu Picchu Citadel - Cusco

Today will be a very special day, a day that you will always remember. Because this is the day when you will visit the spectacular Incan archeological miracle, Machu Picchu, (One of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World). So, you will wake up very early. Then you will eat a really good breakfast before catching the bus up to the Citadel of Machupicchu.

After a guided tour of the magical landscapes, there will be time to take a break in the midst of the ruins. You can snap some amazing photos of the Mountains or record panoramic videos of nature all around you. These will be treasured keepsakes when you return home. Then in the afternoon you will return to Aguas Calientes where you can have a good lunch at one of the most beautiful restaurants in Aguas Calientes, the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. Next, you will board your train that will take you to Poroy train station which is the closest station to Cusco. Our team will be waiting for you at the station, and they will drive you safely back to your hotel in Cusco.

Our trek had an excellent start with a long soak in the Lares hot springs. That warm water felt so good and was so relaxing.

In some parts of the trail there were big herds of alpacas and llamas. The folks that we met were very friendly, although life in high in the Andes cannot be very easy. And it gets chilly as soon as the sun goes down.

The second day had the most spectacular views, I think. Of course, nothing could be more spectacular than Machu Picchu. I’ll never forget our visit to that Inca masterpiece. And I think our way of getting there, by hiking along the Lares Trail was the absolute best.
