Bright and early in the morning, we will pick you up at your hotel and set out in our Private Mercedes van to the district of Mollepata. Then we will continue on to Soraypampa where we will eat a good breakfast. Our guide will give us a briefing and we will be introduced to all of our team members before we head out on the trail. The beautiful town of Soraypampa is the starting point for our trek to Machu Picchu. We will head uphill for 3 hours until we reach an overlook with an incredible view where we can have lunch.
From there it is an uphill hike again until we reach the highest place on our journey, the pass at 4650 masl. We will take a break here, so you can appreciate the high mountains all around you. The majestic Apu Salkantay will tower above you at 6290 masl. You will see multi-colored lakes off in the distance that have been formed by the melt water of the Salkantay glacier. Soon we will walk down in the of our first camp which will be located at Wayracmachay (3800 masl.). Our team will have our camp set up for us when we arrive. Finally we can enjoy our well-deserved rest, eat a great dinner, and have an inter-cultural exchange with the members of our team.
We will wake up with the first rays of the sun and eat a nutritious breakfast. Soon after eating, we will head out in the direction of Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. On this 2nd day of the trek, we will leave behind the cold high country and descend into the exuberant warmth of the fertile valleys of La Convencion.
During the descent toward our next camp at Chaullay, we will see some beautiful sights as we pass by roaring waterfalls, cross over rivers of crystal clear water, and hike through the thick tropical jungle. Before dinner at the campsite there will be time to explore the flora and fauna of the area. Around dark our chef will serve a delicious supper. Finally you can get a good night´s sleep in order to recover your energy.
We will rise with the sun in the morning, and partake of an exquisite breakfast. Then we will leave Chaullay and head out toward Llaqtapata. We will hike uphill for 45 minutes until we come to an old section of the Inca Trail. This part of the Inca Trail connected Vilcabamba to Machu Picchu. We will walk along this portion of the Trail until we reach Llaqtapata. This site is located between the mountains of Machu Picchu and the Vilcanota Mtn. Range.
After a guided tour of Llactapata, we will head toward the town of Hidroeléctrica which is where we will eat a delicious lunch and bid farewell to members of our team. From here we will ride the train to Aguas Calientes along with our guide. In Aguas Calientes we will check into our hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest. Finally in the evening we will eat dinner, and our guide will give us some last minute tips about the following morning´s trip up to Machu Picchu.
This will be a very special day, as it is the day we visit one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Therefore we will have to get a very early start. After breakfast we will board the bus that will take us up to the Incan city. You could also hike up if you choose. The hike up takes an hour and a half. The bus ride takes a half an hour.
We will enter the site by 6 am., so we can see the sun come up over this peaceful, magical place. Then we will have a 3 hour private guided tour on which we will visit the most important points of interest. After the guided tour, there will be free time to explore on your own, and to take some fantastic photos which you will be sure to treasure when you return home.
In the afternoon we will return to Aguas Calientes where we´ll eat lunch and then catch the train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy close to Cusco. In Ollantaytambo or Poroy our team will pick you up with our private van and drive you back to your hotel in Cusco. There you can enjoy your rest and reflect on the past 4 adventure-filled and emotion packed days.
