Itinerary for our Cusco Machu Picchu Tour

Day 1:Arrival in Cusco and City Tour in the afternoon

Upon your arrival at the Cusco airport, our team will be waiting for you. We will be happy to welcome you and assist you in picking up your luggage. Then we will drive you in our private van over to your hotel in the Historic Center of Cusco. At your hotel there will be natural teas available free of charge. Teas like muña and coca are delicious and will help to acclimate to the alttitude. Our recommendation is to rest for a couple hours until lunchtime when you first arrive in Cusco and to eat very light food.

At 1:30 pm you will begin your Cusco City Tour. First of all you will visit the Cusco Cathedral which is located in the Main Square (Plaza de Armas of Cusco). Then you´ll walk over to the Coricancha, the famous Incan Temple of the Sun. During the time of the Incas, the walls of the Coricancha were covered with gold. Next we will head out of the city to visit the Cusco archeological sites and ruins. The first place we visit will be the immense Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. It is built of gigantic blocks of cut stone. Some of the blocks weigh more than 100 tons.

Then we will go to the mysterious Incan site of Qenco. This carved limestone formation is full of subterranean passages and decorated with mythical figures. In addition we will visit the Bath of the Inca. Tambo Machay has beautiful Incan fountains that pour forth crystalline water from hidden underground springs. The level of the flow never varies in rainy season or in dry season. After exploring Tambomachay and Puca Pucara we will drive back to Cusco.

Day 2:Machu Picchu day Tour from Cusco by Train

Our team will pick you up early in the morning and take you out to the Ollantaytambo train station. There you will board the Expedition or Vistadome train that will take you along the banks of the Vilcanota River to the 7th Wonder of the World, Machu Picchu. On the way you will see ancient villages, sacred mountains, the beginning of the classic Inca Trail and a great variety of exotic plants and wildlife.

Once you arrive at the Citadel of Machu Picchu, you will enjoy a 3 hour private guided tour of the site as you visit the most important places in the complex. First you will visit the House of the Guardians, and then continue on to the imposing Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the High Priest, the Sacred Plaza, and the Ushnu. The experience of exploring Machu Picchu is absolutely incredible.

After your guided tour in Machu Picchu you will have free time to take some videos and photos. These photos are sure to be treasured when you return home. After marveling at this magical site, you will return to Aguas Calientes and have lunch at Cafe Inkaterra. In the afternoon you will board the train back to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. From Ollantaytambo our private van will take you back to your hotel in Cusco.

During your tour of Machu Picchu you will have the option of climbing up Huayna Picchu Mtn. or Machu Picchu Mtn. If you wish to climb up either one, it would be a good idea to let us know so we can reserve your tickets at least 3 months in advance. At the same time you can explore the Sun Gate or the Inca’s Bridge at your leisure at no extra charge unless you would like a guide.

Day 3:Cusco – Lima (Your journey back home or on to your next destination)

Our team will drive you to Cusco’s Velazco Astete Airport in time to check in and catch your flight to your next destination. I certainly learned a lot and I also had a lot of fun. It is kind of unbelievable that a bronze age culture was able to build these marvelous sites. I mean, they hadn´t even invented the wheel. There is no way that you could call these folks primitive. The Travel 1 team was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The tour ran smoothly, like a Swiss timepiece. A really great experience!
