In Maras you will make a short stop to see the pretty houses which feature the coats-of-arms of Incan nobles who lived here during Incan and colonial times. The town of Maras used to be inhabited by Incan nobility who originally lived in Cusco. Today the lintel of each house shows the coat-of-arms of an Incan noble family. This town was important after the time of the Spanish Conquest.
You will continue to the Salt Mines of Salineras. This is an impressive site that consists of over 5000 small wells where salt is collected. Some of these wells are very old. This was quite the tour! An epic journey, really, from the busiest street corners of Lima to the deserted icy heights that we saw between Cusco and Puno. It is hard to believe that people actually live up there in tiny mud houses with roofs made out of straw, in the year 2019. My eyes were opened. I learned so much, and not just about history and geography, but about how I should really appreciate everything that has come my way in life.
Travel 1 Tours is a great company. Thank you!
Of course Machu Picchu was magnificent. But besides that I think my favorite part of the whole journey was watching the condors fly over the Colca Canyon. I would like to thank the Travel 1 people for taking such good care of us. I always felt safe. It was a long trip, so I am sure that the logistics were sometimes complicated, but everything went very smoothly. I would go back and do it again in a flash. A great adventure!
A wonderful introduction in to the sights, the sounds, the flavors and the people of Peru. I loved the Cusco area (especially Machu Picchu), and the Amazon jungle was fascinating. My favorite stop was actually the place where you can see the condors flying. all around. That was incredible. Travel 1 was very considerate. I really like Travel 1.
