Peru Holiday Itinerary

Day 1:Arrival in Lima. Welcome to Peru

When you arrive in Lima at the Jorge Chávez Interantional Airport, our team will be there to welcome you. They will help you check in to the Wyndham Costa Del Sol Hotel which is located in the airport. There you can rest up and get ready for your tours.

Many flights arrive late at night or just after midnight, For this reason our client usually stay at Costa del Sol Hotel which is located in the airport. This is because your flight the next day generally leaves between 09:00 am or 12:00 n.

Day 2:Flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado. Boat ride to the Tambopata National Reserve

Today your real Peruvian adventure begins. You will fly to Puerto Maldonado which is considered the capital of the world in biodiversity at the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

Begin to experience the enchantment of the rainforest, as you take the 45-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River, to arrive at the Reserva Amazonica lodge. After a short briefing, settle into your beautiful cabaña and enjoy your lunch in the dining room. Take a nap, followed by a refreshing tea time and get ready for the afternoon excursion.

After gathering with your Inkaterra Explorer Guide, choose from the various excursions available at Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica. On your first day, we recommend a guided walk along the Trail system, into the Reserva Amazonica natural area, where you will discover the Amazon Basin. This trail offers an excellent introduction to the jungle environment, winding past impressive trees such as the staggeringly tall kapok, and the strangely beautiful strangler fig, offering excellent opportunities for birdwatching and observing exotic insects.

We also recommend on the first night our Twilight River excursion — a guided afternoon boat ride on the Madre de Dios river. Witness the transformation from a diurnal to a nocturnal world: animals and birds of the daytime give way to species specially
adapted to the night. As you enjoy their paradise, you will learn about their habits, while you search for nightjars, owls, capybaras and up to three different caiman species.

Enjoy dinner served in the main dining room from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. After dinner, you may retire early to your own cabaña, or share your experience in the rainforest with other guests and interpreters, as you listen to the intriguing sounds of the jungle at night.

Day 3:Sandoval Lake Tour and Adventure Sports

Wake up late or rise early — the choice is yours. Breakfast begins at 5:30 a.m., for those who want to avoid the heat, and enjoy
nature at its fullest. A full buffet breakfast is served from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

This morning you may visit the Lake Sandoval excursion into the Tambopata National Reserve. Glide in a wooden canoe, across a beautiful, mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter, as well as red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles and black caimans. Return to the Lodge for lunch.

After lunch, consider the remarkable Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. Ascending the first tower, 29 meters above the forest ground,
you begin your encounter with the treetop realm. For more than a quarter of a mile, you will literally walk through the rainforest
canopy on a suspension bridge network linking eight observation platforms. During this hour-and-a-half expedition, be on the
lookout for colorful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, and sloths. If you wish you may extend your excursion and
appreciate the sunset from one of the towers. The excursion finishes by returning to the lodge. Once at the lodge, enjoy the daily nature presentation in the Eco Center. Dinner starts at 7:30 p.m

Day 4:Tambopata National Reserve Tour

Enjoy a trip to Gamitana Creek, located 25 minutes by boat from the lodge. For one and a half hours, explore the rainforest along the banks of a winding, dark-water creek that is home to many piranha, caiman, turtles and birds, until the Sanipanga landing point. Navigate your way back downstream, observing the abundant flora and Fauna along the way. You will return to Gamitana
Farm to do a short guided tour to see how local farmers grow fruits and vegetables. Return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, walk along the lodge trails to the Reserva Amazonica Rainforest Garden just around the cabanas. This interesting native garden was started by the locals more than ten years ago showcasing native plants, trees and orchids. An in-depth
explanation familiarizes you with the traditional use and highly interesting benefits of the plants and trees used for construction including those that were used for building the lodge, as well as native clothing accessories.

Then consider the Rainforest by Night excursion through the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve at night for an approximately 2-hour excursion. Biological activity differs greatly between night and day in the Amazonian ecosystem. Venture into the forest and experience the mystery of the animal activity that awakens in the rainforest after dark, enhancing animal resources to create new
adaptation mechanisms. Listen to nocturnal forest sounds and spot species that only emerge at night. Return to the lodge.

Day 5:Boat ride from Tambopata to Puerto Maldonado. Flight from P. Maldonado to Cusco and Transportation to the Sacred Valley of the Incas

Your final morning at the lodge will be free time to do whatever you like. Enjoy a full breakfast before departure. A 45-minute
return trip by boat on the Madre de Dios River takes you to Puerto Maldonado, where you will visit the Butterfly House. Peru boasts the greatest variety of butterflies in the world, with 3,700 known species. Many of these can be seen at the Butterfly House, a showcase for the variety, beauty and adaptability of these fascinating insects Finally, on thre boat ride back to Puerto Maldonado you will be able to witness the grand biodiversity of the Amazon jungle.

From Puerto Maldonado you will fly up to the ancient city of Cusco. Once you arrive at the Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport in Cusco our TRAVEL 1 team will be on hand to welcome you. They will drive you through the picturesque little towns and through majestic Andean scenery to your hotel in the fertile Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Day 6:Sacred Valley (Free Day)

Today is very special day in that you can explore the amazing Sacred Valley in your own style. Wake up and eat breakfast at any time you like. Relax around the hotel or travel to the incredible fortress at Ollantaytambo or to the quaint marketplace in Pisac.
Up above Pisac there are stunning archeological ruins. These locations are in the Sacred Valley and not too far from the hotel.

Optional Tour: Ollantaytambo ($ 67.00 per person), Pisac Market + Pisac Archeological Site ($ 85.00 per person)

Day 7:Tour to Machu Picchu from the Sacred Valley

Most noteworthy is that this will be the magical day when you visit Machu Picchu. You will get up bright and early, and after breakfast you will head to the Urubamba train station where you will board your scenic train to the Citadel. Your Vistadome train will take you along the banks of the Vilcanota River until you reach Aguas Calientes. There will be plenty of interesting things to see on the way: peasants farming in the old style, lots of wildlife, and snow-capped mountains reaching up to the sky.

When you reach Agaus Calientes your local guide will meet you and accompany you on the bus that goes up to the Incan ruins. Your guide will lead you on a 3 hour guided tour of the site, after which you will have free time to go exploring on your own. You might want to go check out the the Inca´s Bridge or the Gateway of the Sun.

Later in the afternoon you can go down to Aguas Calientes and enjoy an exquisite lunch. Then it will be time to board your train for Urubamba. That is where our team will be waiting to pick you up and take you back to your hotel.

Day 8:Travel from the Sacred Valley to Cusco. On the way you will explore Moray, Salineras and Chinchero

After enjoying a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you will begin your tour of the Sacred Valley. You will get to visit some sites that not everyone knows about. First you will stop at the great concentric circles that form the Moray Archeological Site. This is where the Incas experimented on plants the came from all over their Empire. The different micro-climates on the terraces at different elevations helped them in their studies.

Also we will stop at the old colonial town of Maras. Here you can check out the coats-of-arms of the Incan nobility that are on the lintels above the doors of the houses. Next we will visit the Salt Mines of Salineras. The Incas mined salt here 500 hundred years ago.

On the drive back to Cusco you will be able to appreciate the beautiful snow-capped mountains of the Andes across the Sacred Valley. We will stop by the market in Chincheros and see some of the finest fusion of architectural styles in the Americas. This is where the Incan styles and the Spanish colonial styles meet. There is also a lot of exquisite craftwork on sale here.

Following Chincheros we will drive you to your hotel in Cusco, the old Incan capital. There you can take it easy and walk around the historical center of town.

Day 9:Cusco - The City Tour

One bad thing about a vacation journey is that it has to end. This will be your last tour in the Land of the Incas, at least for now. But it is sure to be a very memorable day, as you will get to see the most impressive sites in the sacred capital city of the Incas, Cusco.

Our city tours starts at the fantastic Cusco Cathedral. Here in this old barroque church you can find are over 400 paintings made by members of the Cusco School of artists. Our next stop will be the Qoricancha, the Incan Temple of the Sun. It is located in the present day Church of Santo Domingo.

Next we will head up out of town and see the fantastic Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the carved stones of Qenqo, the Inca´s bath at Tambomachay, and gateway fort of Puca Pucara. This tour lasts about 4 and a half hours.

On this, your last night in Cusco, you can go see the fantastic dance show of traditional Peruvian dances at the Qosqo Center of Native Art.

Day 10:Transportation to the Airport - Travel on to youir next destination

You will have a farewell breakfast at your hotel. Then, accoding to your flight time, we will drive you over to the Cusco airport in time for you to check in and catch your flight home, or your flight on to your next destination.

If your flight is not reserved for that day, we can arrange for your transportation on the different day. Or we can take you to the bus station or the train station to travel to Puno.
