Day 2:Lima City Tour: Colonial and Modern Lima

A spectacular day in the City of Kings. On Day 2 we begin the tours. Peru is a country of incredible contrasts and surprising treasures. Today we will begin in the morning by touring central Lima. With its 2000 years of history, it will amaze you. The center of colonial Lima has been declared to be part of the Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Its historic edifices surround the Plaza de Armas. During the tour we will appreciate the beauty of the imposing Archbishop´s Palace, the opulent Palace of the Government, the official residence of the president, and the Cathedral of Lima.

The keystone of the Cathedral was laid by Francisco Pizarro during the 16th century. We will continue by visiting the San Francisco Monastery which was built during the 17th century and features some magnificent tile work. In the interior we´ll see the exceptional paintings, the ornate carvings, and the world famous library.

On our way back to your hotel we will stop at the panoramic ¨Huaca Pucllana” Pyramid. This pyramid, which was constructed in the 4th century B.C., was a magnificent ceremonial center. It is an amazing archeological feat, and it was considered to be a sacred place by the Incas. After the tour you will have the afternoon free to explore the iconic sites in Miraflores.

If you would like to continue a deeper exploration into Peruvian culture, you could participate in an optional tour to the Larco Herrera Museum. This museum is located in a restored 17th century mansion and is considered to be the finest museum in Lima. Here you will be able to see the largest collection in the world of pre-Columbian masterpieces, and a very impressive exposition of gold and jewels, the value of which cannot be estimated.

Day 3:Flight to Iquitos from Lima and Boat Ride to the Tree House Lodge

Today we begin our new adventure! We will fly out of Lima on our commercial flight. Our destination is Iquitos, the capital of Loreto. It is also considered to be the capital of the Peruvian Amazon. When you arrive you will be met by our team, and you´ll go on an exciting boat ride up the river to our lodge which is located in the heart of the Amazon Jungle.

The scenery in the jungle is incredible. It is so full of biodiversity, more so than almost anywhere else on earth. After checking in, you will have a welcome-to-the-lodge lunch. After lunch you can take a break at this rustic refuge. After siesta, you´ll begin to explore the magical trails along with your guide who is an expert in the local wildlife. This naturalist will be happy to share his knowledge of the enchanted forest. You´ll be hiking through forest covered with moss, orchids, and ferns. You´ll able to enjoy the best of the Peruvian jungle. Later you´ll return to the lodge for a good night´s rest.

Day 4:Sunrise and Breakfast with the Dolphins

This is the perfect way to start your day in the Peruvian Amazon. About an hour before sunrise you will boat along the Yarapa and Ucayali rivers until you reach the Amazon River. Here you will enjoy “breakfast in boat” while observing the world famous Pink and Gray River Dolphins of the Amazon during their morning feeding. Enjoy sunrise over the skyline of the Amazon rain forest. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous you can jump in and swim with the dolphins. As with all excursions, there is always a chance that you catch a glimpse of other types of wildlife such as sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and birds along the edges of the river.

Note: All the excursions last from 2 to 3 hours depending to the water level and the weather conditions.

After the tour you will have the rest of the day free to relax or to take an optional tour in the Amazon Jungle.

Day 5:Treehouse Canopy Walk. Continuing exploration in the Amazon

After an energizing breakfast you will have free time to explore on your own before starting on your scheduled adventures

This Lodge is one of the most unique hotels in the world. Featured by National Geographic as one of the Top 10 Most Unusual Hotels in the World, Treehouse offers the incomparable experience of observing the Amazon rain forest from the treetop canopies. On this excursion you will explore all of the canopy walkways and viewing platforms that dot the area of the Lodge. You can learn about the history, tradition and architecture of the lodge while you observe wildlife from 30 – 70 feet above the jungle floor.

After finishing the tour you can relax at the Lodge.

Day 6:Early Morning Bird Watching. Return Flight to Lima and Connection to Cusco

The best way to witness wildlife is by waking up early to the sound of hundreds of birds and monkeys. The suspension bridges are built to bring you closer to all the wildlife that exists around the Lodge. You will see many species of tanagers, toucans, parrots, parakeets, antbirds, antwrens, woodpeckers, and monkeys that come to feed on the fruit and insects found on the trees.

There are species of birds that never venture close to the ground because the fruit they eat is found on the tree tops. Being close to the canopy, it’s easy to see the beauty of these species. In only one early morning, you will observe at least 50 species of birds, 20 of which are uncommon. The variety of wildlife in this type of igapo forest is outstanding. The more appreciation we can gain of these species and the more research we can perform to find new species, the more likely they are to be preserved for future generations.

After the tour we will have a great breakfast in the tropical jungle. There will be farewell ceremony of thanksgiving. All of the team will participate. Then we will return to Iquitos and go check in at the airport. After our flight back to Lima, we will catch our flight up to Cusco. When you arrive in Cusco you can rest and relax at your hotel.

Day 7:Cusco Free Day

Free day in Cusco You probably have asked why Cusco is considered to be such a special city. It is because here it is possible to do all the activities and take part in every adventure sport that you have always wanted to try, from taking a walking tour of the city to river rafting on the Vilcanota River.

The Imperial City was the ancient capital of the Incan Empire. Today it has been declared part of the Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It is a friendly city that is full of history and architecture. There are Incan ruins around every corner. There are also great examples of Spanish colonial architecture. It is well worth your while to spend time in Cusco exploring the most iconic places and visiting the local galleries full of handmade textiles and other crafts.

Day 8:Cusco Sacred Valley Tour

If you are one of those travelers who loves to explore and to experience unique adventures, then this tour is definitely for you.
We´ll leave Cusco and travel to Chinchero. Next we wil visit the important agricultural center of Moray. There we can observe the great skill that the Incas exibiited through their farming techniques and by how they adapted plants to different climatic zones. You will see great circular terraces where the temperature changed depending on the altitude. It is thought by historians that the Incas studied climatic conditions and soil properties here. They learned how to grow and adapt different kinds of food crops that originally grew in different regions of their empire. As you descend the terraces, the temperature increases. The Incas had extraordinary knowledge of climates and microclimates.

Next we will continue on to the salt mines of Salineras, This is an impressive site that consists of over 5000 small wells where salt is collected. Some of these wells are very old. The Incas mined salt at this site, and this practice continued throughout the reign of the Spanish viceroys. The local people let the salt water flow into the depressions which they have dug out. Then the sun evaporates the water, leaving behind a crust of salt which is then collected and sold on the local market.

After visiting the salt mines we will continue on to the town of Urubamba to eat lunch. After that we will go to Ollantaytambo Archeological Center. At this magestic site you will see the Temple of the Sun of the Incas and the great system of the agricultural terraces. You will return to your hotel in Urubamba in the Sacred Valley to get a good night’s rest.

Day 9:Train Ride to Machu Picchu from the Sacred Valley

This will be one the most memorable days that you will spend while traveling around ageless Peru. After a great breakfast at your hotel we will take you to the Ollantaytambo train station where you´ll board your train to Machu Picchu. You will ride the Vistadome train along the banks of the Vilcanota River to One of the Wonders of the Modern World. On the train ride you will pass by ancient villages, sacred mountains, and a great number of wild plants and animals native to this zone.

When you arrive at Machu Picchu Pueblo you will encounter a small vibrant city that exists in order to satisfy the needs of every visitor who comes here looking to be delighted by its enchantments. The surprising Citadel of Machu Picchu, known as the Lost City of the Incas, was designated as One of the Seven New Wonders of the World on 7/7/2007. Machu Picchu was practically unknown until it was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. You will enjoy your 3 hour private guided tour of the site during which you´ll visit the most important locations in Machu Picchu.

After your tour you will be able to take some fantastic photos that will be treasured long after you return home. After you marvel at this magical site that was built during the 15th century you will return to Aguas Calientes where you will eat lunch. Then you can board your train back to the Ollantaytambo. There our team will meet you will ride back to your hotel in Urubamba. There you can rest up after a very exciting day.

Day 11:Tour of the Route of the Sun from Cusco to Puno (Full day tour)

In the morning, after a delicious breakfast, we leave Cusco and ride through the Andes in the direction of the Antiplano. The first stop on the tourist Route of the Sun will be the chapel at Andahuaylillas. There we will have a very interesting guided tour of the Church of St. Peter, the Apostle. The ceilings and the walls are covered with murals and the oil paintings which use real golden foil.

The next stop will be the Temple of Wiracocha at Raqchi. This is an important Incan site. The large rectangular temple is 92 m. long, 25.5 m. wide, and about 9.8 m high. During your tour of the site you can not only learn all about this fantastic tourist attraction, but you can also enjoy the changing weather in this pleasant Andean environment.

When we arrive at Sicuani we will eat a great lunch. Then we will continue our journey along the Route of the Sun and stop at La Raya. At 4335 masl., this is the highest point of our trip from Cusco to Puno. The final stop on the tour will be the museum at Pukara. This was an important ceremonial site on the Altiplano. Here we can discover the origin of pre-Incan cultures through the museum’s collection of sculptures and ceramics. We will arrive at Puno at approximately 5 pm. There we will be able to get comfortable and relax at our hotel.

Day 12:Tour of Lake Titicaca, the Floating Islands of the Uros, Taquile and Luquina

We will enjoy a 2 and a half hour tour of this island which has been ranked by Skyscanner ( the airplane ticket service) as the 4th most beautiful island in the world. Here we will visit the isolated weavers of this ancient community. According to pre-Columbian legend, the Incas actually learned how to weave from the artisans of this island. They are very very skilled. Taquile has been declared to be part of the Cultural Heritage of the World by UNESCO.

We are going to return along the traditional route. We will leave Taquile at around noon and head in the direction of the Chucuito Peninsula. This is the Aymara region of the Lake and represents the communal identity of the Peruvian – Bolivian Altiplano. We will eat a wonderful buffet lunch at The Fisherman´s House right there in the community of Luquina Chico.

Later in the afternoon we will visit the Floating Islands of the Uros on our way back to Puno. Here the natives maintain their ancient customs and way of life by weaving together tortora reeds ( which grow in the shallows of the Lake) to construct their floating island home.

This program allows our clients to visit new tourist attractions which very few vistors know about. Since this is a non-traditional tour, our clients are very satisfied.
